Can children enter without a ticket?
This is one of our most frequent questions. The short answer: entry is free of charge for children, but every visitor — including the youngest — needs a reserved entry pass.
Free entry does not mean no pass
The Museum limits how many people are on site, so every visitor must be registered and hold an entry pass, even when its price is zero.
If you book on your own, add the child to the reservation. If you travel with us, tell us the number and age of children when booking and we will arrange the passes.
Recommended age
The Museum does not recommend visits for children under 14. It is a recommendation, not a ban — the decision rests with parents and guardians.
The exhibition speaks plainly about genocide and includes very difficult content. If you bring a younger child, prepare them beforehand and be ready to end the visit early.
Practical tips for families
- The visit lasts about 3.5 hours and is mostly outdoors — comfortable shoes matter.
- Strollers are allowed, but some buildings have thresholds and narrow stairs.
- Bring water and a small snack; eating happens outside the exhibition areas.
- Plan a break between Auschwitz I and Birkenau — our tours include time for it.
